Dear CIS MSHS Community,

We find ourselves in unusual circumstances once again. This time may feel different, with the implementation of new protocols and procedures from the directive of the government. Remember, however, that this is a global pandemic. It is something that the entire world is experiencing, albeit in different ways and timings, but no one is experiencing the challenges alone. We will successfully navigate this matter, as we have done before.

Here are some gentle reminders as we move forward:

  1. Separate what is in your control from what is not. There are steps you can take, such as washing your hands thoroughly, practicing social distancing, limiting your consumption of news and taking your vitamins.
  2. Do what helps you feel safe. This will vary from person to person. Perhaps calling a friend or family member, watching a funny movie or being creative is helpful. Just take care not to isolate yourself.
  3. Challenge yourself to stay present. You may find yourself worrying not only about the current situation but also what’s to come. Gently give yourself permission to come back to the present moment. Notice the sights and sounds around you. Practicing mindfulness activities is one way to stay grounded.
  4. Stay connected with your circle. Reach out and talk to a trusted friend about how you are feeling. If you are particularly anxious, or struggling with your mental health, it is okay to reach out to a mental health professional for help. Email Ms. Cadwell as needed.
  5. Keep a routine. Stay in a similar pattern to the normal work/school week.  Get dressed, eat, do school work, incorporate physical activity, and go to bed at a normal time.
  6. Do not forget AWAY TIME — establish a time each day to have time where everyone can go off and have quiet time (reading, nap, drawing, etc).

As we go through this new phase together, as a community, we want to remind you that support and resources are available as you need. Please reach out to your community, neighbors, friends, family, teachers, and your counselor.

Take Care.

Ms. Cadwell
