Tony George, CIS IB & Curriculum Coordinator

Dear Parents,

Following on from conversations earlier on in the year, I want to write to give you an update on our IB authorisation process, as a great deal of progress has been made despite recent events. As you will be aware, a great deal of work has gone on this year to ensure that our policies and practices are in line with those of the IB. This has involved work from a large number of staff, and I believe that many of the benefits – in areas such as Creativity, Activity and Service, can be seen already.

We have also had a number of teachers undergo subject specific training in French, Computer Science, Biology, Mathematics and Creativity, Activity and Service to ensure that they are knowledgeable about the IB courses that they are going to deliver from August 2021 and that they fully understand the IB Philosophy of education. As is normal for a growing school we have recruited a number of new teachers for next year and you will be pleased to hear that these teachers bring with them a wealth of IB experience in a wide variety of subjects, including English, Chinese, Visual Art, Music and Theory of Knowledge. In addition to subject teachers, we have a Secondary School Guidance Counsellor joining CIS next year, who also has a great deal of experience of university guidance and of supporting students with their higher education applications to universities worldwide.

As you will also be aware, work continues apace on the new buildings, which are due to open for August 2020. These include state of the art classrooms, specialist spaces for the Arts (music, drama, dance and visual art – including a black box theatre), fully equipped science laboratories, sports facilities including a swimming pool and a gymnasium and a well-stocked secondary school library.

Finally, as those of you with children in Grade 9 will know, courses have been prepared for next year’s Grade 10 students. These will help to prepare students for the move to the IB diploma in August 2021. More details on course selections for the IB and Alberta Diplomas will be provided early next academic year as students begin to give more thought to life beyond secondary school.

While things may seem difficult at present, please do rest assured that both CIS and the IB are fully committed to making sure that all proceeds as smoothly as can be managed next year in order that our current Grade 9 students are able to study the IB diploma from August 2021.

Please feel free to contact me via email (Tony.George@cisp.edu.kh) if you have any specific questions or comments regarding this process.

Sincere best wishes,

Tony George | IB & Curriculum Coordinator
